INITIAL SETUP & USEFUL TIPS:
SWEEP-N-FILL III
INITIAL
SETUP
1
On a hard-level surface hook the Sweep-N-Fill to the desired tow vehicle and activate the actuator to lower the Sweep-N-Fill unto the drive wheels with transport wheels off the ground.
2
Level the Sweep-N-Fill by adjusting tow hitch up or down to obtain the same ground clearance under the tongue (tow bar) and the back frame bar. The tongue will be parallel to the ground plane.
3
Slide cardboard under each brush.
4
Adjust the brush height adjuster at each end of the brush until it lightly touches the cardboard across the length of the brush. Tightening the nut raises the brush and loosening the nut lowers the brush.
5
Adjust chain tension by loosening the chain idler bracket and push idler bracket down with light pressure, and re-tighten idler bracket. This will provide chain deflection of 1/2" to 1" along the long run of the chain.
6
Remove cardboard. Travel to the brushing site and lower SNF fully with drive wheels resting on the turf. Adjust brushes so they rest on the turf with brush height adjusters. Then loosen nuts on brush height adjusters to leave 1/8" space between nut and washer. This allows for floating of the brushes to follow the contour of the turf.
7
Adjust brush aggressiveness on turf as needed. Loosen the nut for more aggressiveness or tighten nut for less aggressiveness.
USEFUL TIP
More flicking potential while pulling at 3 mph or a fast walking pace. The faster you pull the Sweep-N-Fill, the more it will perform more like a drag brush.
A proper, slower pace will bring faster results, thus requiring fewer passes.
USEFUL TIP
Make all adjustments - leveling, brush aggressiveness settings, chain tension, etc. with the transport wheels off the ground and the drive wheels resting on the ground.
USEFUL TIP
Keep tire pressure at 12-14 psi.
USEFUL TIP
When brushing in circular patterns, alternate direction of travel between clock-wise and counter
clock-wise routinely to avoid brush wearing into a cone configuration.
USEFUL TIP
FILLING AERIFIED GREENS
-
Apply more sand in the center of the green and leave the outside perimeter void of sand.
-
Brush center until holes are filled.
-
Then work from the center of the green, and circle outwards, moving excess sand to the perimeter.
USEFUL TIP
Over time, brushes may become more dense and lose some flicking potential due to the individual bristles becoming woven together. The brush can be brought back to its original looseness and flicking potential by combing the brush with either a pitchfork or mulching fork.
USEFUL TIP
Too much topdressing sand applied will result in leaving rows of sand along the outside edges of the working swath. The Sweep-N-Fill III is more effective at removing the sand from the turf canopy and therefore less top-dressing sand is required where previously drag mats and drag brushes were used to fill the aerified holes. Apply more sand to the center of the area of the green and then leave the swath's void of sand. These areas void of top-dressing sand will provide more areas for accumulated sand from heavier sand areas to distribute into and avoid sand rows developing. Brush the center of the green and then brush in a circular pattern from the center to the outside perimeter.
